Since then, Paul and highly respected winemaker Sergio Carlei have been producing wines of outstanding quality that speak of a sense of place and provenance. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eTurners Crossing Vineyard now spans 42 hectares on well-drained, red sandy clay topsoil. The sub-soil is red light-to-medium clay containing limestone pebbles. The vineyard is virtually pesticide and chemical free; warm days and cool nights allow the grapes to ripen during the day and the vines to recover overnight. Vines are spur-pruned and bud numbers are calculated to deliver low yields.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe vineyard bears shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, viognier and \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Picolit\"\u003epicolit\u003c\/a\u003e grapes, a white variety of Italian origin.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAustralian wine writer \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/www.winecompanion.com.au\/\"\u003eJames Halliday\u003c\/a\u003e recently referred to the wines of Turners Crossing as having “uncommon distinction”. Shiraz 2016

The 2016 Shiraz is the product of a delightful vintage from the Turners Crossing Vineyard at Serpentine, Central Victoria.

The vineyard itself rests on the banks of the Loddon River some 50km northwest of Bendigo where the soil is typically a medium clay loam infused with a ridge of limestone pebbles that influences a neutral pH across the profile.

Climatic conditions at the site generally include warm to hot days during the summer and throughout the growing season with mild night-time temperatures just below 20C

The Shiraz fruit is from low yielding vines and was harvested at the appropriate time to ensure optimum balance, ripeness and intensity of flavour.

This Shiraz was co-fermented with a small portion of award-winning Viognier, also grown at the Turners Crossing Vineyard, to give the wine a full, smooth mouth feel which is rich, round and aromatic.

WINE MAKER SPECIFICS

Colour: Deep crimson red

Aroma: The wine is expressive and complex with an array of fruit aromas of black fruit, spice, cloves and olive

Palate: The Shiraz is a balanced wine of lovely intense fruit flavours and has a full, rich textural mouth feel. It is tightly packed with notes of black fruit, spice, cloves and olive.

Ageing: Ready to drink now, but will most likely continue to improve for 3-4 years

Vintage: The region's weather through to harvest was dry but of moderate heat, providing good ripening conditions. 2016 yields were moderate, but produced flavoursome Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon in particular.

Food Friends: The 2016 Shiraz is superb with slow roasted lamb shoulder, veal ragu tossed through freshly made pasta - and is the perfect guest to bring along to your next BBQ
