'The Crossing' Shiraz 2018

The 2018 'The Crossing' Shiraz is the product of a delightful vintage from the Turners Crossing vineyard at Serpentine, Central Victoria.

The shiraz fruit is from low yielding vines and was harvested at the appropriate time to ensure optimum balance, ripeness and intensity of flavour.

The fruit was transferred without de-stemming, to open fermenters on arrival at the winery, where it remained for 3 weeks; plunged and pumped over 3 times per day, every day. The resultant product was then pressed and subject to a brief period of malolactic fermentation in French oak Hogsheads, before being racked and returned to oak for 17 months maturation. The wine was gently filtered prior to bottling.

WINE MAKER SPECIFICS

Colour: Deep purple-red

Aroma: The wine offers a complex array of fruit aromas of black fruit, spice, cloves and olive. The oak aromas are of char and vanilla spice.

Palate: This Shiraz is a balance wine of lovely intense fruit flavours and is tightly packed full of black fruit, spice, cloves and olive. The oak characters are beautifully integrated into the wine, giving the wine structure and adding power, balance and savoury richness.

Ageing: Ready to drink now but will most likely continue to improve for 8-10 years.

The Vintage: The 2018 vintage was fast paced. The weather exposed some cooler days and nights in late Spring followed by a warm, dry Summer. Consistent irrigation ensured full fruit development and flavour with high yeilds.

Food Friends: The 2018 'The Crossing' Shiraz is superb with slow roasted lamb shoulder, veal ragu tossed through freshly made pasta - and is the perfect guest to bring along to your next BBQ.
